On July 9, approximately 120 XMU and CFLC officials and alumni attended a ceremony marking the establishment of the CFLC Beijing Alumni Association. Present at the ceremony were Chen Zhiwei, Party Secretary of CFLC; Chen Weiping, Deputy Secretary-General of the XMU Alumni Association; Lai Guanrong, Director-General of the XMU Beijing Alumni Association; as well as alumnus representatives from Beijing, Australia, Spain and Kazakhstan. At the ceremony, Lai Guanrong, Director-General of the XMU Beijing Alumni Association, announced that the purpose of the association is to: maintain close linkages with CFLC, enhance bonding and fellowship via social, cultural and educational activities, contribute to CFLC’s vision to sustain its excellence and status as a preeminent center for foreign language and literature studies, and support its activities including fundraising and sponsorship programs. On behalf of CFLC, Party Secretary Chen Zhiwei conveyed her appreciation to the Beijing alumni for their unwavering support of their alma mater. She also briefed them on the recent developments at CFLC and revealed CFLC’s plans to offer a BA degree program in Spanish next year, which is set to become the sixth foreign language program at CFCL in addition to the current programs in English, French, German, Japanese and Russian. Yi Rucheng (Class of 1963), An Qi (Class of 1983) and Zhang Jianxin (Class of 1996) spoke at the ceremony on behalf of three generations of alumni. They reminisced about their college days and expressed their gratitude to their alma mater for helping them lay a solid foundation for their professional success. They also expressed their hopes for sustained linkages with their alma mater. The ceremony was followed by a dinner reception and singing performances.
