Orientation Week for New Graduate Students Concludes

The CFLC Orientation Week for Graduate Students drew to a close on September 21. The

 Orientation Week was a program of social and academic activities designed to introduce graduate students to life and study at CFLC and to help them settle into CFLC life before the academic year began.

 The Orientation Week offered social events, sporting activities and study and support programs to help familiarize student with their campus, help them meet people and help them feel prepared for the year ahead. More importantly it was about feeling connected and comfortable with the College.

 The Orientation Week was also a valuable time for students to get acclimated to the campus and learn about their resources and meet fellow students and academic staff. It helped new students transition to graduate school by providing information about the academic community, policies and resources.

 Major events during the Orientation Week included:

 A talk by CFLC Party Secretary Chen Zhiwei on the University’s history and CFLC’s roles in major international events in recent years, notably the BRICS Xiamen Summit and the Internet Plus University Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition;

 A talk by Lan Danfeng, Deputy Director of the XMU Psychological Counselling and Education Center, on the basic knowledge and importance of psychological counselling and tips on how to cope with stress and achieve a smooth transition to graduate studies;

A talk by second-year graduate student Zang Kanghua on the structure and duties of the Class Committee and its past activities;


A visit to XMU’s History Museum, Revolutionary History Museum and Lu Xun Memorial Hall, which equipped the students with a better understanding of the University’s proud history and rich heritage, as well as teambuilding fun games by Furong Lake;


A talk by XMU Deputy Director of Security, Chen Jinhua, on swimming, electrical and transportation safety and on theft and scamming prevention;


A talk by CFLC Vice Dean Prof. Xin Zhiying on the essentials of academic research;


A meeting with supervisors and an introduction by the supervisors to the academic and professional prospects of the areas of specialization and to learning methods;


A networking party with current graduate students;


A talk by Graduate Student Counsellor Le Wuyang on CLFC’s basic policies and procedures;


A talk by Graduate Studies Secretary Zou Liuxin on academic plans, overseas exchange programs and scholarships;


A talk by Librarian Mai Lin on library services and procedures;


A talk by Party Affairs Secretary Yu Xiaofang on the criteria and procedures for Party membership;


A talk by student Xu Jingyi on the use of the “iXMU” app.
