XMU Hosts Chinese-Japanese Interpreting Contest

Xiamen University hosted the first Cross-Strait Chinese-Japanese Interpreting Contest on November 21. Twenty-one contestants from 20 prestigious higher-education institutions in mainland China and Taiwan participated in the competition. With an impeccable performance in interpreting a keynote speech and a dialogue, Wang Jiawei from Peking University won the most coveted Special Prize. The articulateness and interpreting skills of the contestants were lauded by the judges.

 

The contest was jointly organized by CFLC and the Taiwan Society of Japanese Language. Eight Japanese language professors from Tokyo, Taiwan, Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen served as judges for the competition.

 

In his opening remarks, XMU President Zhu Chongshi proclaimed that this competition would serve as an excellent platform for exchange and communication across the Taiwan Strait and would inspire students to develop their Japanese language competence.

Best Pronunciation:    Lin Guanting (Soochow University)

Best Style:                        Wu Minjia (Taiwan National University)

Most Inspiring:              Zhang Jingwen (Taichung University of Science & Technology)
